Hmmm, Chioma sighed yet again, if only I could Interprete the scriptures the way Bro Emeka does,or at least speak the word in such a declarative tone as Sister Amaka, I would be eager to teach the Bible Study anytime the Bible Study coordinator appioints me to teach! Sometimes, I wonder if anyone ever gets blessed by my teachings. I don’t even sound deep! Haba! Some people are just gifted, just see the way Bro Emeka interprets scriptures you would wonder if he was there when the scriptures was written. God it isn’t fair! Chioma lamented.
… Fiction….
“And he gave some apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of the Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-12.
There are lots of competition in the body of Christ as some people are striving to be like the other ,others striving to be where the have not been called to be,and some people trying to outshine the rest.
The hand cannot perform the functions of the eyes, neither can the head perform the functions of the leg or the stomach. It will be folly for any part of the body to enter into competition with the other. The order in the human body exists because every part is content to function in it’s capacity.
May the body of Christ be wiser than the human body! May we realise that the giftings in the body of Christ exist for one purpose; Edification and perfecting of thesame body.
Are you content to function in the capacity where God has put you? If he has called you to be a pastor,be a pastor, if he has called you to be a teacher, be a teacher, if he has called you to be a prophet be a prophet.
It would be wrong for the eyes to evaluate it’s usefulness by comparing it’s functions with the functions of the heart ,yet that is what a lot of us do in the body.
You don’t evaluate your value in the body by looking at the usefulness of another man’s giftings. God has placed the different ministerial gifts to benefit the body of Christ. This is the place of uniqueness. The pastor has his unique functions, likewise the prophet, also is the teacher, the Evangelist and the apostle.
I pray God gives us understanding as members of the body.
It is needful for us to know that our rewards as members of the body of Christ will not come from the capacity of the ministerial gift you have been given ,but from your ability to perform the functions of that ministerial gift you have been given!
We should even be concerned with asking for grace to fulfill the assignments tied to our giftings and not trying to outshine another or sulking because we think our gift is inconsequential.
May Christ grant understanding to his body. This lack of understanding is the reason for the many strife’s, showmanship, malice and all worth not in the church today. Remember no man receives anything unless it be given him.
If you have been called to be a pastor, be content to take care of the sheep and not be proud about it. If you have been called to be an evangelist, be content to work in the field of souls and don’t be proud about that. If you have been called to be a teacher, be content to teach the body of Christ and don’t be puffed up while doing that. If you have been called to be a prophet, be content to declare and bring timely warnings to the body of Christ and do it without pride. If you have been called to be an apostle,be content to bring the apostlic dimensions to the body of Christ and don’t be proud about it.
And like Chioma in our story, don’t be worried about if people are getting blessed by your ministry, yours is to minister the Holy Ghost waters and gives the increase.
Arise labourer and go to the field of souls!
Be content to function in the capacity where in you have been called to.
Maranatha.
